Foil Surfing / Prone Surfing is the newest discipline of surfing and we are lucky in Ecuador to havce world class reefs and points perfect for you Foil. Robert Ross the owner of ME is addicted to the foil and has spent the last year finding the best reefs up and down the coast for proning. In Ecuador you will Foil by yourself on an outer flat rock reef with waves 200-300 meters long year round. Check out the videos of @robertxross1 Foil Surfing in Ecuador and get in touch for a tour. Montañita, EcuadorMontañita, Ecuador is on the southern coast of Ecuador, 2 hours from Ecuador's financial capital Guayaquil, airport code GYE. Ecuador is the last warm water destination before you hit the southern cold water currents of Peru. In Montanita we surf in board shorts year round with water temps ranging from 75-82 degrees.
Montañita is perfectly located on the coast of Ecuador to receive north and south swells. Our primary season runs from December - May in North Season but have waves year round from June - November as well with souths. South swells can bring trickier conditions with a bit more onshore flow and colder water |

the set up
The ME Hotel is located 2 hours from GYE on a mountain overlooking Ecuador's surf capital, Montañita Ecuador. Guests at the ME Hotel are just a short 5 minute walk from the consistent and punchy, Montañita Beachbreak and 10 minute walk from one of the best waves in South America, La Punta. Below are a list of waves that a guided surf tour with the ME Hotel includes:
- La Punta - Perfect Trestles like point break that breaks on a flat rock/reef. 10 minute walk or 30 second drive from the ME Hotel. Works on all tides and both north and souths and is one of the best waves in South America. Can be crowded on big swells but surf it alone or with less than 10 people during the week and an off tides.
- Montañita Beach Break - 5 minute walk from the ME Hotel, consistent popular beach break. Punchy and can barrel on a north. Tide and swell sensitive. Local knowledge helps to know when it works best.
- Secret Beach Break 5-10 minutes north - Just north of Montañita there are 2 consistent beach breaks that you can surf by yourself year round. These waves work great with a fatter board, fish, retro or long board and on big swells form perfect A frames and can be ridden as long as a point break. Tide sensitive local knowledge is a must
- Secret Point Break #1 - Point/Reef that works best with a fatter retro board or long board 10 minutes north of Montañita . This wave is the place to go on swells that push double to triple over head. Always empty and your legs will be burning after a good ride
- Secret Point Break #2 - Punchy Short Point Break/Slab. Breaks on a good north with a lot of energy and power. Small take off and best with surfed with less than 5 people.
- Ayampe - 25 minutes north of Montañita is one of the most consistent and fun beach breaks in all of Ecuador. Ayampe is a great surf town in itself and there are always waves. This is where to head when the whole coast is flat b/c there are always waves
- Secret Beach Break north of Ayampe - This wave breaks like a perfect A Frame on a good north. Need a four wheel drive to access or a 20 minute walk from nearest parking
- Secret Beach Break north of Ayampe - Works with Ayampe on the opposite tide. Nearby but breaks longer and like a point.
- Secret Point Break north of Ayampe - Low tide left point break 45 minutes north of Montañita, beautiful beach and cove
- Ecuador Pipeline - 1.5 hours north of Montañita. One of the best waves in all of South America and breaks like Escondido on the right swell. A-Frame sand bottom barrels. Needs the right swell and right tide. Local knowledge a must to find this wave
- San Mateo - 2 hours north of Montañita is one of the longest lefts in South America called San Mateo. Only breaks on north swells, but when its on will break for over a mile.
- Salinas Points - 1 hour south of Montañita there are 5 point breaks that work on different swells and tides. Salinas is a great option on big north or souths.
- Playas - 2 hours south of Montañita sits on of the best set ups in all of South America. 13 back to back right point breaks that look like Malibu. These waves take a large south to work and when they are on all 13 waves connect for 2 a mile long wave and a 25 minute walk back to the point
